Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has commiserated with the immediate family, friends, and colleagues of former Chief of Army Staff, Major General Mohammed Chris Alli, who passed away at the age of 78.
In a statement on Wednesday, Governor Bello described Late Alli as one of the patriotic Nigerians who risked his life in the defense of Nigeria’s territorial integrity. He acknowledges Alli as a quintessential Army General whose impeccable passion for peace, development, and progress of Nigeria is unmatched by others.
“I condole with the family of Major General Chris Alli and the Nigerian Army over the sad loss of the former Chief of Army Staff. Alli served his country with honor, uncommon patriotism, and retired meritoriously. May the Almighty God rest his soul and grant his family the fortitude to bear the huge void,” he said.
Governor Bello recalled that late Ali, on behalf of Ohiku-Egbira Descendants Union’s (OEDU) Board of Trustees, issued a congratulatory message to him and the government of Kogi State on the successful and violence-free November 11 governorship election in the state.
He described the late former Chief of Army Staff as a man with an unquenchable taste for the growth and development of Kogi State and Nigeria in general.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Ali’s soul and urges the family to take solace in his exemplary and patriotic lifestyle.
Born on December 1, 1944, in Koto-Karfe, Kogi State, Major-General Alli was a former Chief of Army Staff and military administrator of Plateau State. Ali also served as the Director of Military Intelligence (DMI) before his elevation to Chief of Army Staff, earning respect as a dedicated officer.
The late Army General also served as an interim administrator of Plateau State during a crisis in 2004.
