PRESS RELEASE BY NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF KOGI STATE MEDICAL STUDENTS (NAKOMS)

The Kogi State Medical Students’ Association (KOMSA), also known as National Association of Kogi State Medical Students (NAKOMS), has commended the recent on the spot visit of Governor Yahaya Bello to various tertiary institutions in the State. It is glaring that His Excellency unambiguously means well for the educational sector of the State and especially the vibrant Kogi State Students.

Also, the commitment of His Excellency shown towards Kogi State Educational sector is beyond doubt very unique and smart so as to address loopholes and lacunas stagnating the growth of the sector.

As Kogi Medical Students, it is with experience that we state that His Excellency always strive to secure the future, this we have witnessed in the health sector by the approval of the Kogi State Medical Students’ Bond Proposal. The route to success is always filled with obstacles but what matters is taking Kogi State to the destination we all crave for.

We have further seen government commitment in the health sector as drastic steps have been taken so far to cub the stagnation menace in  kogi state University College of Medicine, we further recommend that a standard teaching hospital be put in place to tackle the accreditation challenges of the college. We know beyond doubts that the Governor is on the right track.

We are therefore appealing to ASUU, KSU Chapter to immediately suspend their six (6) months old strike to halt further destruction of the ambitions of Kogi Students. It should not be termed as ‘Going back on the strike’ but as ‘Progress in the Educational Sector,’ due to the fact that Kogi State Government has made concerted efforts in addressing some of the problems that led to the strike action by paying all cleared staff up to March, 2017, the latest being the 241 members of staff who were paid between Tuesday, 11th July to Thursday, 13th July, 2017.

It is also worthy to commend the setting up of the free health initiative known as ‘GYB Grassroots Connect Screening for life,’ which has been screening and treating patients for Hypertension, Diabetes and surgeries and other ailments in Kogi State, While recommending the involvement of Kogi Medical Students in subsequent health services/outreaches in the State.

Comrade Samuel Agada
National President
