Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has launched the Kogi Online Agricultural Market Place.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Bello at an interactive session, the Managing Director Kogi Agricultural Development Project (ADP), Mr Oyisi Okatahi, stated that the Governor is very committed in making Kogi the foremost Agricultural State in Nigeria.
He said the strategy is for extension agents to help farmers list their produce online and get the best prices for their labour, noting that the exchange is open to all farmers in Nigeria, not only Kogi State.
According to Okatahi, the online market place will connect farmers to the world.
“This will enable farmers to fully dispose their produce. Whereas today they could lose most of their profit to middle men, the online marketplace will also help prevent their goods from getting spoilt since buyers could off-take their produce even before harvest,” he said.
He said Governor Yahaya Bello has given ADP marching order to implement a project that will benefit the people every single month.
“Starting from last year November, we organised the Kogi Agricultural Summit. In December, we commenced Rice Processing at ADP Office and by January this year, we started work on the Cassava City project. Now, in February, we are launching the Online Agricultural Market Place,” he added.
He encouraged youths to key into the agricultural revolution of both the State and Federal government as this is a good way of gaining employment rather than waiting for white collar jobs.
