Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi on Thursday urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), posted to Kogi to imbibe camp discipline, teachings and instructions to make them very apt for the service year.
The governor gave the advise at the NYSC orientation camp, Asaya, Kabba, at the swearing-in ceremony of the 1750 corps members deployed to the state for the 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1.
Bello, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Gabriel Adoji, advised the corps members to take the orientation course with all seriousness to make the community development efforts more impactful.
Bello also assured the corps members of their safety and conducive environment during their service year, saying he has invested money and time in giving the orientation camp infrastructural face-lift with increased accommodation capacity.
“This administration is also mindful of the camp security, hence the 5.3 hectares security fencing of the camp is about to be completed.
“I wish to call for effective synergy between the camp management and the corps members, as we realise the power in team spirit for national achievement,” Bello said.
The State Coordinator, Mrs Oludolapo Ahile, said the NYSC orientation course would inculcate discipline in corps members and make them imbibe good work ethics in preparation for their primary assignment.
She added that it would also equip the corps members with practical, social and leadership skills required for the challenges of the service year.
Ahile stressed that the NYSC would strictly follow its posting policy which focuses on rural development, saying “we are here to serve the people of Kogi by contributing towards the New Direction Policy”.
She commended the governor for camp renovation, construction of more hostel and quarters for camp officials, and the ongoing construction of the perimeter fencing of the camp.
She added: “We are indeed very grateful, it is our hope that the contractor would speed up work for quick completion of all the laudable projects”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the oath of allegiance was administered by Justice Arome Akogu, on behalf of the Kogi Chief Judge, Justice Nasiru Ajanah.
