Gov. Bello Assures NYSC Members of Safety, Conducive Environment

Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi on Monday pledged to ensure the safety of Corps members and conducive environment to render their services to people of the state.
He made the pledge at the closing ceremony of the NYSC Orientation Course for 2017 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1, Corps members deployed to the state at the orientation camp at Asaya in Kabba.
Bello, represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Gabriel Arome, assured the Corps members that his administration was committed to their safety and creation of conducive environment to enable them render effective services to Kogi people.
“Most of my policies are geared toward creating the enabling environment for your selfless service, self-development and contribution to nation building.
“It is our hope that Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programmes which NYSC has exposed you to, will spur you toward self-employment.
“As you go to your various places of primary assignment, I urge you to remain patriotic, loyal and be the vanguard of enlightenment to our people,” Bello said.
The governor commended the Corps members for their good conduct, resilience and focus throughout the period of training, saying it would open them up to fresh opportunities and challenges.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs Ngozi Nwatarali, urged the Corps members to be role models to their host communities and make the people economically vibrant and self-sustained.
Nwatarali, said that 1, 848 members, made up of 857 males and 991 females, had been registered for the service year.
“The NYSC scheme places the corps members in a very unique position which you must strive to uphold, particularly national unity, peace and development.
“I want to commend the state government for the construction of nine soak-away pits and toilets in the camp, and to assist in building the camp’s perimeter fencing to further ensure the safety of corps members,’’ she said.
Oba Michael Yusuf, the Obadofin of Owe land, admonished the corps members to strictly follow the rules and regulations guiding the scheme, behave well and be good ambassadors in their respective places of primary assignment.
The monarch also appealed to the State Government to help NYSC to construct the perimeter fencing of the camp to further secure the corps members during camping.
