FRSC Officer Shot by Armed Robbers After Leaving Bank in Kogi

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Friday sustained serious injuries when he was shot severally by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The officer identified as Abu, was shot by the armed robbers who attempted to snatch a bag containing money from him.

He was returning to his house in the Zango area of Lokoja, when the armed robbers operating in a ash colour Toyota Camry car accosted him.

Abu who was riding a motorcycle was believed to have been trailed by the armed robbers right from the bank where he went to make transaction.

However, the armed robbers numbering four were able to close up on him in front of Lokongoma market.

The armed robbers stopped him in front of the market and started dragging the bag containing the money with him.

He refused to let go, prompting the armed robbers to shoot him three times in both legs and shoulder.

While confirming the robbery attack, the Kogi State Police Command said N139,000 was recovered from the scene of the robbery.

Police spokesperson, SP William Aya, who made the confirmation said Abu was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

“At exactly 1.30 pm, officers received a distress call and rushed to the scene at Lokongoma Phase I in Lokoja, and met Abu, a road safety officer, in a pool of his own blood after being shot at both legs and shoulder.

“He was coming from the bank when a Toyota Camry Ash colour car accosted him and blocked him in front of Lokongoma Market, Phase 1 in Lokoja, and was dispossessed of an unspecified sum of money,” Aya said.
