As the Provost of Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Mopa, Professor Muhammad Kabir Ibrahim, marks one year in office today, one can say it’s a one year defined by vision, courage, and remarkable institutional rebirth.

From the outset, he brought with him a clear and sincere commitment to reposition the college, guided by fairness, inclusivity, and a deep sense of purpose. In a state as ethnically diverse as Kogi, and within a similarly diverse academic workforce, his leadership has stood out as notably detribalized firmly rooted in equity, professionalism, and collective progress.

What distinguishes his administration is not just intent, but execution. The qualities of an effective academic leader, strategic thinking, responsiveness, and accountability are not only evident but consistently demonstrated.

Administratively, long-delayed processes have been revived with efficiency. Decisions that once lingered now receive prompt evaluation, approvals, and feedback, aligning the institution with modern standards of governance and operational effectiveness.

Perhaps most striking, however, is the transformation of the college’s physical landscape. Relocated under difficult circumstances from its former site in Kabba to an undeveloped and isolated location, many had feared the institution would collapse. Instead, within a year, that uncertainty has given way to hope. Under Professor MK’s leadership, the once-barren environment has evolved into a rapidly developing academic hub, with no fewer than ten solid structures already completed.

Complementing this is a modern, solar-powered ICT centre, alongside several ongoing infrastructural projects, clear indicators of a deliberate and forward-looking vision.

Equally commendable is his investment in human capital. Recognizing that institutions grow through people, he has prioritized staff development by facilitating training opportunities both within Nigeria and internationally. This focus on academic advancement and research capacity underscores a leadership style that balances physical development with intellectual growth.

On a clear cut, one can say, Professor Muhammad Kabir’s first year in office reflects more than administrative success, it represents a decisive turnaround in the fortunes of the college.

From uncertainty to stability, from neglect to growth, his tenure so far offers a compelling model of purposeful leadership.

There is no doubt that this momentum will be sustained, we are particularly highly optimistic this trajectory will not only secure the future of the institution but firmly establish it as a rising force in Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape.
