Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has congratulated the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Major General Waidi Shaibu, describing the appointment as a well-deserved recognition of years of patriotism, discipline, and service to the nation.

In a letter he signed and issued on Sunday, Bello expressed his delight over the appointment of the top military officer by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the elevation reflects the officer’s unwavering commitment to excellence and national security.

“It gives me great pleasure to extend my warmest congratulations to you on your well-deserved appointment as the Chief of Army Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the former governor said.

He added that the appointment was not only a source of pride to the nation but particularly to Kogi State, the home of the new Army Chief.

Bello, who served two terms as Governor of Kogi State, recalled his working relationship with the Nigerian Army during his tenure, especially in addressing the security challenges that once threatened lives and property in the state.

“I recall vividly the challenges we faced in securing Kogi during my tenure, and how the Nigerian Army, under officers like you, stood shoulder to shoulder with our administration in the battle to safeguard lives and properties across our dear state,” he noted.

While commending the courage and professionalism of the new Army Chief, Bello expressed confidence that the Nigerian Army under his command will redouble its vigilance and decisiveness in the fight against insecurity across the country.

He also expressed optimism that Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, would benefit from the Army Chief’s support in consolidating ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability in the state.

“It gives me renewed hope that my worthy successor, Governor Ododo, will now have you in his corner as he continues to tackle insecurity in his domain. I urge you to collaborate with him to sustain and intensify the ongoing onslaught against criminals and bring lasting peace to Kogi, the North Central region, and indeed every troubled part of our country,” he said.

Bello prayed for divine wisdom and strength for the new Chief of Army Staff in discharging his duties effectively, describing him as “a disciplined soldier whose loyalty to the nation remains unshaken.”

“Once again, congratulations, my dear brother and compatriot,” Bello concluded.
