The office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) yesterday told a Federal High Court in Abuja that the Kogi lecturer and two others who are facing charges of terrorism were recruiting students for terrorist activities.

The three accused persons, Mohammed Nazeef Yunus (PhD), Salami Abdullahi (businessman) and Musa Umar, were on February 3, 2014 arraigned on an eight counts charge bordering on conspiracy and terrorism over alleged plot to attack Kogi State.

In a fresh Prosecutor’s Opening Address admitted by Justice Gabriel Kolawole, the AGF said Yunus had attended several meetings on how to set up a cell of the Boko Haram sect in Kogi State.

The address read by Mrs. N.B. Jones-Nebo, a chief state counsel, explained that Yunus identified as a member of the Al Yusuna Izala sect had discouraged a 21 year old man and two other students of the Kogi State University, Ayingba, from seeking western education and instead, enroll in Islamic education.

She said while Umar had attended Boko Haram trainings at the Sambisa Forest and had been placed on a monthly salary of N50, 000, Abdullahi had financed their programmes and provided his MRS Filling Station, Ayingba for their meetings.

Defence counsels James Ocholi (SAN) and Hassan Liman (SAN) opposed the oral testimony of E. Sarki, principal officer at the Department of State Services (DSS).

They contended that his evidence, being not materially different from what was presented in the AGF’s documents, is not admissible.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole adjourned the case to June 25 for ruling.
