Conflict is unavoidable but undesireable. It may occur between people in all kinds of human relationships and social settings as absence of conflict may even signal the absence of meaningful interaction according to Yoruba adage. Man is conflictually structured because of the environment we find ourselves. Conflict is not necessarily catastrophic. However, the manner in which conflict is handled determines whether it is constructive or destructive.

The Inter-personal conflict between the duo was a verbal conflict before, but has now moved a step up the escalation staircase breeding different assassination stories and signaling that they have become “locked in” to the conflict and unable to get out by themselves. This is why APC and Traditional Rulers in Okun should urgently find the interests behind each side’s positions, and arbitrate between them while keeping both parties focused to prevent any from feeling that it is losing face. They should help stop their conflict from escalating beyond proportional resolution and not fold their hands and watch these two elephants fight because; our development would suffer it.

I could describe Hon. Taufiq, whom I barely know from afar as a wonderful person. I would not also lie that Dino Melaye is also a nice man in his nice areas. That’s my opinion. ‘Even Omoburuku ni’jo tie’. As their polarization grows, it will lead to competition which breeds competition, rather than cooperation. Following series of insults on both parties by themselves, threat to each other’s life is now the latest news. They should quash this trash before their enemies take advantage of the apparent dispute to wreck evil.

This was the resolve of Hon. Taofiq and some of his achievements “I have promised myself and my God that, I shall toe the path of the Heroes that had no personal properties and superfluous wealth for the emancipation of the nation. I, Hon Taufiq A. Isa will never allow any self-centered politician of whatever class to barricade the chances of Okun from achieving developmental strides in this divine tenure. I am singularly extolling the virtue of Gov. Yahaya Bello for ceding unprecedented juicy hierarchies of political offices to Okun people. Ranging from SSG, Commissioner of Finance, Education, Agriculture, Women Affairs, ALGON Chairman, Chairman SUBEB, Special Advisers, Security, Political, Culture and Tourism, Youths Empowerment, Sports and Students Affairs, DG Media and Strategies, SSA IGR, Admin, Planning and strategy, Mobilization etc, which had never benefited Okun people and Kogi West Senatorial District to have it good this far”.

“If I speak the truth, I will die. If I lie, I will die. I’ve decided to speak the truth and die. I’m not afraid of death. I only respect men, I don’t fear them. “I am championing an administrative cause. I will continue to speak and be the voice to the voiceless. I’m not deterred; I remain resolute to make Kogi better. Noting will stop me from coming home.” – Dino.

The New Direction Government of Governor Yahaya Bello, which I as an administrator, describes as ‘Polyarchy’ – A government by many persons of whatever class or order. His appointments speak volume concerning this assertion. Taufiq and Dino’s cooperation/synergy I believe will birth more development. All indigenes of Kogi should please, support this government as swift as possible. Bello is a lover of Okun and Kogi as a whole. We have never had it this fare!

Don’t forget, your worst enemy may become your best friend. The win-win approach for both parties is achievable if they split their differences over their difficulties in a painless way as possible. Taufiq and Dino should see this as a problem to be solved rather than a war to be won.

Prince Olorunmola Titus.
