The 2023 gubernatorial candidate for the Action Alliance (AA) party in Kogi State, Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, has expressed his sympathies to the victims of the recent tragedy in Felele, where numerous lives were lost, attributing the incident to flawed urban planning error.

In a statement on Tuesday, Braimoh stated that, “I have watched and read stakeholders trying to proffer solutions to these issues. To address any issue, should we not go to the root cause rather than treating the effects? The root cause here is the fundamental planning error.

“In standard urban planning, access to arterial roads are taking from collector roads and not directly from every plot on the arterial road. The arterial roads moves the traffic to highways. But in the case of Kogi and several other states, the professional standards have been jettisoned due to ignorance, negligence and lack of visionary leadership.

“Where there’s no order, chaos is inevitable. The erroneous urban planning either due to ignorance or negligence has brought about the chaos on the federal highway in this area and many other parts of the state.”

Braimoh called on the state government, through the urban planning department, to urgently reassess urban replanning of developments around federal highway.
