A 30-year-old farmer, Ezekiel Okpe, was yesterday remanded at the federal prisons, Ankpa in Kogi State over culpable homicide.
The accused, Ezekiel Okpe of Onole-Ugo village in Olamaboro Local Government Area was alleged to have killed one Ochenemi Alfa on March 26, 2014, at a stream in Onole-Ugo village.
The prosecutor, Corporal Ganagawa, told the court that one Eleojo Abel reported at the police station that on March 23, her younger brother, Ochenemi Alfa, went to the stream to wash clothes.
The prosecutor said according to Eleojo, shortly after her brother went to the stream, she saw people running back home from the same stream.
He added that Eleojo alleged that when she got to the stream, she saw the accused attacking her brother. He said according to Eleojo, the suspect twisted and pressed her brother’s head inside the stream until he died. He added that investigation into the matter led to the arrest of the accused.
The prosecutor noted that the offence is not bailable and urged the court to remand the accused in prison.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Levi Nda Animoku remanded the accused at the federal prison Ankpa and also transferred the case to the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ankpa.
