All is now set for the burial of Pa Steven Dada Olowosegun (JP), the head of the Ijemu Ayan Clan in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Pa Steven Dada Olowosegun joined the saints on 11th September 2024 at the age of 93.

According to a Burial Programme obtained by newsmen, remains of the nonagenarian will be committed to mother earth on Friday 29th November 2024 after a Church Service at Cathedral Church of Saint Andrews Kabba at 10am to be followed by reception at Saint Andrews Primary School Playground.

Christian Wake is expected to hold Friday 28th 2024 beginning from 4pm at No 99 Kano Road Kabba.

Pa, Stephen Dada Olowosegun was born on 1st February 1931 to the family of Late Obaba and Ajisomo Olowosegun of Ijemu Ayan clan of Ayede-Otu, Odolu, Kabba. The young Stephen Dada Olowosegun started his educational career in 1947 at St. Andrew’s Primary School, Kabba, Kogi State.

Between 1947 and 1953, he obtained the first leaving Certificate. Shortly after completion of his Primary School education, a relation took him to Kaduna in the Northern region of Nigeria for greener pasture and to build a career that would take him out of poverty and establish him as man for bright future because he became an orphan at early stage of his life.
In pursuance of his educational and career development, Baba applied for sponsorship in an Intermediate Construction Course (Building/Civil Engineering) at Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna and with the help of God between 1970-1974, he obtained Intermediate Construction Certificate. Furthermore, his love for education gingered him for further training in Advanced Construction Certificate Course (Building/Civil Engineering) between 1974 and 1976 at the same Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna. He also did some short training courses in Management Development programmes within Nigeria. He attained these feats while the children were also pursuing their educational careers at various levels of the career development.

Baba Stephen Dada Olowosegun joined the services of Northern Nigeria Government under the Colonial Government in the Ministry of Works and Water Resources on the 19th March,1959 as Craftman Grade 1 staff of the establishment. Being an ambitious and courageous person, he applied for practical training on apprenticeship for Radio Electrical Services in 1963 with M & B Radio Electrical Services, Kaduna. In 1967, he transferred his services from Northern Nigeria Government to the newly created Kwara State to the Ministry of Works where his duties/assignments took him through nooks and crannies of old Kwara State. He served as Yard Superintendent (YS) as he’s being popularly called by his colleagues and admirers; and also he served as the Building Maintenance Officer, Kwara State Government House before his redeployment to Kogi State.

As fate will have it, at the creation of Kogi State Baba was deployed to the State, he served for a short time at the Ministry of Works, Kabba area Office where he retired as Assistant Chief Superintendent of Works in 1993.
In his community and religious activities, Pa. Stephen Dada Olowosegun a cherished patriarch and esteemed community leader, became the Head of his clan (Olori Ebi) for Ijemu Ayan of Ayede-Otu. A bridge builder par excellence among his people and community as a whole. Baba Stephen lived a long and fulfilling life, marked by unwavering faith, dedication to his family, and selfless service to his community. Also, a lover of the things of God. Baba’s commitment to his faith was evident in his active involvement with the church. In 1991, he had the opportunity to perform Christian Holy Pilgrimage to Jerusalem to witness significant points of his Christian faith. His spiritual journey was deeply connected to St Andrews Cathedral Church, Kabba Dioceses, Kabba, Kogi State, Nigeria, where he worshipped and served diligently in various capacity. His contributions to the church and the broader community left an indelible mark, earning him the admiration and respect of all who knew him.

Baba, a devoted husband, was married to his beloved wife, Mama Modupe Janet Olowosegun ( nee Adeyemi). Together, they nurtured a robust family, raising children with love, wisdom, and strong moral values based on Biblical principles. Baba’s legacy is one of deep family bonds, and his children continue to embody the principles and virtues instilled in them by their father. They were blessed with children and grandchildren. Pa. Stephen Dada Olowosegun JP will be remembered not only for his dedication to his family and faith but also for his enduring kindness, integrity, and the countless lives he touched. He loved reading and encouraged anyone that comes in contact with him never to stop reading and learning new things. His spirit will forever remain a guiding light for those who had the privilege of knowing him.
