Critics of Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has been urged to exercise restraint and join hands with other patriotic indiegenes to rebuild the state.
The Chairman of GYB Ambassadors, Hon. Usman Muhammed made the call while addressing newsmen in Lokoja.
Usman the recently uncovered crimes of certificate forgery among Kogi state civil servants calls for concern. He said criticism of Governor Bello for delayed and unpaid salaries is uncalled for.
ย “By now, people should understand why the Government makes such decision and the government didn’t say they will not pay staff salaries. So many states in the country embarked on similar screening exercise and there is no way government will continue to pay suspected fraudulent staff while the screening was ongoing. The lofty aims of the exercise cannot be achieved that way.
“After the verification exercise was concluded and the committee submitted it reports we were faced with sad revelations of fraud in the civil service like double employment, staff earning multiple salaries, concurrent pension and salary earners, children of politicians on government payroll, diaspora workers, backdated employments,
impersonations, inherited employment as well as those employed for political gains late in 2015 and early 2016.
“About 376 MDA staffs were indicted for using fake academic certificates. According to law, such persons should return the salary collected and be sanctioned for serious misconduct in line with public service rule 030402 and dismissed from public service.
“With about 13,825 cases of misconduct and still people are blaming the government, closing their eyes to the evils perpetrated by the civil servants. We should be sincere and focus on our work in other to leave legacy for next generation,” he said.
