The issues of exam malpractice has been the talk that happens to be on the lips of every students and lectures in Kogi state University, it has become alarming in the sense that it has eaten deep into the heart of every students, even the newly JJC now considered it as an easy tool use to obtain a better grade in the university not even considering the disadvantage and penalty for it.
Exam malpractice is a criminal offense students engaged in, any student found or caught will be punishable by the Nigerian law.
Students practice exam malpractice in different ways, through going to exam hall with their hand-set, writing on piece of paper, some write it on their skin, even talking in the exam hall is also consider as exam malpractice, obviously exam malpractice has a negative impact on our students and the society at large, it causes the death of one’s conscience. This unethical behavior will gradually destroy aspect of one’s life.
The student that engaged in examination malpractice will be so much involved in it that they will stop being honest in every aspect of their life. Such student will not be able to access their self correctly and objectively as to do what their capable of doing because they don’t believe in their competence anymore.
Exam malpractice have send bad image to those who do not partake in it, first they feel cheated and all their efforts put into reading prove futile, when they see the result of those engaging in examination malpractice are passing with flying colors and they could not condone this at the expense of their reading, they also wanted to join so a stop must be put at all cost.
Exam malpractice has changed the way student read during the exam, it will start as something one could stop but it will be impossible if the universities management do not put an end to it.
The effect of exam malpractice on the entire universities is increasing this bad attitude has led to loss of confidence in the certificates that we derive from the examination. Exams are no longer way to determine a person’s aptitude because many people outside their carry certificate they are unable to defend, many universities have loss of faith for their students because of examination malpractice. The degree we obtain from our institutions are now regarded as inferior both inside and outside the nation due to examination malpractice.
In conclusion, it very important to address exam examination malpractice before it damage out education system, this impact is very terrible to our educational systems. As a result of this, our students are now lazy and unwilling and disinterested in reading, in order to restore sanity to our educational systems, this nasty trend needs to be stopped immediately.
