Senator Ndume’s recent outburst against President Tinubu’s administration is hypocritical, to say the least. He wants to tag this administration black, but hasn’t he been part of the same crew? There’s really no difference between him and the average Nigerian politician; we (most Nigerians) are all cut from the same ragged cloth.
I recall my friend, Eng’r Gabriel’s apt analogy about the C. Ronaldo vs. L. Messi debate. Hesaid, “No matter which side you’re on, you can’t ignore the contributions both men have made to football.” But this isn’t football; it’s politics, and Sen. Ndume lacks the moral right to tag this administration black while he himself is white.
When Nigerians cry foul, it’s often not about seeking justice but about not being in power. A former APC gladiator once threatened the opposition with death, neatly packaged in bodybags. Now that the slogan “emilokan” speaks to a selected few, he is out there rallying for support from those he had initially threatened with death. Again, Sen. Ndume’s suddenly found voice stems from a realisation that things are no longer at ease.
The President’s attack dogs have been busy, releasing lists of political appointments to counter Sen. Ndume’s criticism. Whether the lists are correct or not, Sen. Ndume’s outcry was enough to wake the President. Sometimes, there’s wisdom in taking a message, regardless of whom the messenger is.
Eedris Abdulkarim, a musical icon, recently criticised the Tinubu-led administration, asking the President’s son to tell his father that all is not well. From reckless disregard and display of power abuse in the ongoing Rivers case and, for some, the Kano state emirate power tussle, I am of the opinion that this administration is doing a terrible job, just as Corper Raye puts it.
Cheap talk, though – it was bound to happen. Remember, we do not build something or nothing, inn it?This administration is terrible but we often forget to mention that we (citizens) schooled the politicians into the pristine act of becoming terrible. Yes, even though the President is terrible, we too are terrible.
