The Good Samaritan Life Support Foundation (GSLF) has made a passionate appeal to the Governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to urgently rehabilitate the Felele Road in Lokoja, describing the condition of the road as “a tragedy that keeps repeating itself.”

In a heartfelt open letter signed by Mr. Orolu Olusola Kayode, Executive Director of GSLF, the organization lamented that the Felele Road — a vital link for thousands of commuters — has deteriorated into a death trap, claiming lives and crippling daily movement.

“Every day on Felele Road tells a story of sorrow. Cars break down in flooded gullies, trucks overturn, and pedestrians wade through danger. This road has become a corridor of pain.

“A female lecturer, identified as Mrs Kemi Emmanuel, of the Department of Theatre Arts, Federal University Lokoja, was killed by an articulated vehicle on the Crusher-Felele axis along the Lokoja-Abuja expressway in Lokoja. The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, when the lecturer fell off a commercial motorcycle after being hit by a moving truck along the highway and crushed.

“On August 17, 2024, a commercial driver, Mr. Musa Ibrahim, and two passengers lost their lives when their vehicle somersaulted into a ditch near the Felele market area.

“In September 2024, a tricycle carrying school children toppled during a heavy downpour, injuring several pupils and leaving one in critical condition.

“Earlier this year, a pregnant woman, Mrs. Mary Audu, reportedly died in transit after the ambulance conveying her to the state hospital was trapped in traffic caused by the bad portion of the same road.
“These are not statistics.

“They are fathers, mothers, and children whose only mistake was traveling on a road that should have been safe,” the letter read.

The Foundation described Felele Road as a lifeline that connects communities, schools, and markets in Lokoja, lamenting that its continued neglect has worsened the economic hardship and emotional trauma of residents.

“Your Excellency, the people are not asking for luxury — they are asking for safety, dignity, and the right to move without fear. Fixing Felele Road will not just repair asphalt; it will restore hope and save lives,” the letter urged.

GSLF commended Governor Ododo’s efforts in improving infrastructure across Kogi State and expressed optimism that his administration will respond swiftly to this urgent humanitarian concern.

The organization further pledged its readiness to partner with the government through public education, community monitoring, and safety campaigns to ensure the success of the rehabilitation effort.

“Let this be the moment Kogi State turns tears into triumph,” Mr. Orolu concluded.
