In its determination to reposition the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Kogi state government has directed the committee set up to bring the agency to its rightful place to come out with draft law on the agency to enable it respond appropriately to emergencies in the state.
The deputy governor of kogi state, Elder Simon Achuba who received the report of the earlier committee set up to reposition the agency in his office at Lokoja the state capital today, further charged the committee to do a thorough job and come out with acceptable draft law that would give room for the effective and prompt response to emergency situations in the state.
According to the deputy governor, as a result of the change in weather across the country, a lot of development may have taken place that would warrant the repositioning of the state’s emergency agencies all over the country.
The committee which has one month to complete it’s assignment, is to look at the workings of SEMA in other states of the federation and compare them with that of the emergency management agency in Kogi state.
The deputy governor further enjoined the committee headed by the deputy chief of staff in his office, Isa Omade to consult relevant agencies in the task of making the state emergency agency the most effective and efficient in the country.
It could be recalled that the State government, early last month, set up a committee to look into how the state emergency management agency could be put in its proper place to respond to emergencies in the state promptly.
