Kogi State Government says it recognizes when communities honour their sons and daughters as it helps in gauging values placed on them.
Kogi State Governor stated this at the conferment of the Chieftaincy title of Akogun of Mopaland on Hon Dayo Akande, Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Strategic Planning.
The Governor who was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, said the present administration places value and respect on the traditional institution, assured that as the custodian of the peoples culture, it will strive hard to ensure that it occupies a prominent place in the administration’s transformation agenda.
While describing the new Akogun of Mopaland as a thorough breed administrator who is goal and result oriented, a prophet respected at home, said the waiver granted him to receive the title against the policy of government which bars political appointees from taking chieftaincy titles speaks volume of the value the administration places on the traditional institution.
The State Governor assured of his administration determination to improving the welfare of traditional institutions across the state, so as to enable them complement the maintenance of law and order role in their domain,said efforts will not be spared in making sure the traditional institution remains revered.
The State Governor wished the new Akogun of Mopaland good health as he assumes a new role in community development, urged him to be spurred by the title to offer more service to his Mopa Community and the State in General.
Also speaking, Bar Raji Abdultalib, Chairman Forum of Special Advisers, said the honour done to Dayo Akande is well deserved in view of the determination and commitment he has so far shown to community development.
In his remarks, Oba Joseph Joledo, the Elulu of Mopa, said the traditional council having viewed the immense contributions made by Hon Dayo Akande, towards improving the socio economic development of Mopaland, found him worthy of the title of Akogun, solicited more of his contribution to moving the area forward.
Responding, Chief Dayo Akande, the Akogun of Mopaland, said he will be spurred by the title, assuring that if his little contributions could result to a honour by his community, assured that he will strive to do more for the society at large.
