Ogbeni David made this call in a press statement sent to Kogireports yesterday.
He said the recent audio recording made public by Sahara Reporters of the alleged bribery of the judge that handled the case between Senator Dino Melaye and Senator Smart Adeyemi calls for serious concern. He urged all relevant security agencies to rise up to ensure that justice is served.
“We demand a full scale investigation and prosecution of the lawmaker representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, for alleged bribe of an Election Petition judge, Justice Akoh Ikpeme in 2015.
“We could have chosen not to refer to Dino Melaye as a senator because of the several embarrassment he has brought to the red chambers, but we are compelled to do so because as at today, he remain the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, so we accord him that respect. However, we observe with dismay his unbridled penchant for corruption and impunity which has been the bedrock of his travel through life.
“Well, we can’t blame him completely because it takes two to tangle. We blame the failed system that allowed this kind of impunity to survive, we blame the failed system that allowed corrupt and self centered individuals like Sen. Dino Melaye to attain great heights in this country to the level of becoming a senator of the Federal Republic.
“Several flaws were identified in the process that brought in Sen. Dino Melaye, starting from the party primaries and the electoral irregularities that characterized the collation of the general results. We are compelled to ask why Appeal court ordered for re-run elections in Kogi East and Central, and none was declared for Kogi West. We all know that it was a similar process that brought in all of them.
“We at the Kogi West Centre for Equity and Justice frown at these acts of impunity, alleged bribery and electoral fraud. We will not rest until we see that justice is served”, he said.
Ogbeni David challenged Senator Melaye to submit himself willingly to the relevant agencies for proper investigation.
