Edward Onoja, Kogi First Lady Visit Scene of Felele Tanker Explosion

The Kogi State Deputy Governor, Chief Edward David Onoja earlier today, visited the scene of the fuel Tanker explosion at the Felele Axis of the State Capital which claimed 23 lives describing it as “tragic and very unfortunate”.

Chief Onoja explained that Governor Yahaya Bello was shocked and saddened by the loss of lives and wanton destruction of properties in the incident while consoling the families of the victims of the explosion, describing the event as “terribly unfortunate”.

According to a Press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Promise Emmanuel, Chief Onoja who was accompanied by Wife of the Governor, Hajiya Rashida Bello, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Ayoade Folashade Arike and the State Security Adviser, Cmdr. Jerry Omodara lamented the devastation of the carnage.

He reiterated the plans of the State Government to get approval for works to be carried out on some Federal Infrastructure in the State, noting that the Governor was already meeting with the Minister for Works to discuss modalities in order to prevent future reoccurrence.

He also expressed sadness over the number of people whose lives were cut-short by the event, and assured all who were present of the State Government’s resolve to render support to all families of the victims, as well as those currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

Kogi State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Aliyu Idris Fika had confirmed that Twenty-Three (23) people lost their lives in the incident, while a survivor was receiving treatment in one of the hospitals.

Also present at the inspection were the State Commissioner of Police, Ede Ayuba, Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Ogbo and other Government functionaries.
