Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho has urged Nigerians to live purposefully and remain close to God, reminding all that life is transient and death comes without notice.

He made this solemn reflection while delivering a heartfelt message at the burial ceremony of the late James Onojah Ignatius (Kross) in Amaka, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Echocho acknowledged the overwhelming show of solidarity from the people, noting the presence of Kogi Deputy Governor, Comrade Salifu Joel Oyibo and members of the Kogi State House of Assembly, led by Hon. Bari Oil, other Assembly members, women leaders, party chieftains, community leaders, pastors officiating at the burial, and the immediate family of the deceased, his wife, and children.

He expressed gratitude to all who came to honour the memory of a man who once walked and worked closely among them.

The Senator paid special tribute to Elder Friday Makama, whom he described as a long-standing leader and a passionate son of Igalamela/Odolu LGA, noting his immense contributions to the progress of the APC and community development over the years.

Reflecting personally, Senator Echocho spoke fondly of his friendship with the late Kross, describing him as an amiable and loyal individual. He recalled moments they shared together, including visits to his residence in Maitama, emphasizing that their relationship went beyond politics to genuine brotherhood.

“Forty-nine years is indeed too short,” the Senator lamented, adding that death remains a painful but unavoidable reality. He urged everyone present to learn from the loss and from other recent deaths, stressing the need to live rightly and remain close to God Almighty at all times.

According to him, positions of authority are tests of faith and character. “Whatever position God has given to you is either to be used to alleviate poverty or to inflict pain on people,” he said, praying that no one would misuse power in ways that bring suffering or eternal regret. He encouraged leaders to act with compassion, humility, and fear of God, knowing that life’s final account will be based on deeds done on earth.

Senator Echocho concluded with prayers for the repose of late Kross’ soul and for God’s comfort upon his family, the Amaka community, and all who mourn him.

And in a practical demonstration of faith and support for the work of God, he announced a donation of ₦2 million to support the ongoing church building project in Amaka, a gesture that was warmly received by the community.

He prayed that God would grant the departed eternal rest and give everyone the strength and grace to bear the irreparable loss.
