Youths in Lokoja have called on the member representing, Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Buba Jibril to urgently withdraw his bill against NGO’s or lose the people’s support.

The Executive Director of Youth Emancipation for the Society, Danasabe Umar, who spoke on behalf of the youth, described the bill as undemocratic, coming at a time when people were seeking for opportunities through NGO’s to contribute their quota to the socioeconomic development of the country.

Umar, who spoke on Tuesday  in Lokoja at an interactive workshop organized by Trees on Earth Development Foundation in Partnership with CLEEN Foundation to honour some role models selected from some challenged communities.

The youths called for the immediate withdrawal of the bill by Jibril, noting that the bill is anti people, and aimed at strangulating NGOs.

Umar, called on the sponsor of the bill to focus on bills that will provide jobs, improve the wellbeing of people, rather than dissipating his energy on bills that are “unpopular, anti-people, antidemocratic”.

According to him, the lawmaker stands to lose the support and goodwill of youth from his constituency should he fails to withdraw the bill.

Earlier in a welcome remarks, Moses Adedeji, Executive Director, Trees on Earth Development Foundation, said though communities may continue to be inundated with violence and insecurity, the power of influence which a challenged community can wield on young people by role models can change the narratives.

The Executive Director TEDF challenged youths to rise above the challenges of what their communities may provide them today, noting that with hardwork and focus, they will be successful in life.

Adedeji appealed to the youths to stand up and be counted in the campaign against radicalization, indoctrination, drug abuse, cultism, terrorism, thuggery and other related vices, noting that as future leaders, what they need to succeed is vision, resilience and determination.
