The acting chairman of the Kogi State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Barr. Abraham Paul has debunked the report that the party chairman for Yagba West local government, Dr. Babajide Ikubolaje has been suspended.
In the report, the zonal chairman of the party, Ben Ayo Abereoran, alleged that Ikubolaje was suspended by his ward and local government executives as well as the approval of same by the zonal organ of the party in line with the party’s construction. He alleged that Ikubolaje has been replaced with Mr. Ade Yeye.
But in a swift reaction, the State Acting Chairman declared that Ikubolaje remains the party chairman in Yagba West. He punctured the claims stating that there are laid down procedures for such actions.
“This is to inform members of our great party that Dr Babajide Ikubolaje remains the Chairman SDP Yagba West. There are procedures that must be followed before an LGA Chairman of the party can be ‘sacked’. I appeal to party faithfuls in Yagba West to hold their peace and continue to promote the activities of the party,” he said.
Speaking with Kogireports on the issue, Dr. Ikubolaje described his purported suspension as a ruse. He berated Abereoran for engaging in childish politics.
He stated that his purported suspension stems from the fallout of the recently conducted primary elections in Yagba Federal constituency.
“During the primaries, we had two contestants; Bisi Awoniyi and Femi Iselaiye. I studied both of them based on competence, capacity and maturity. Without doubt, Bisi Awoniyi is more mature to represent Yagba people in the House of Representatives so I pitched my tent with her. It is not by force, it is what I want. After the primaries, they alleged that Bisi Awoniyi gave me money.
“Abereoran is a jobless man. He claimed he has suspended me as the zonal chairman. Can the zonal chairman suspend a party chairman? If the state exco of the party has not met since the last primary elections, who ratified the purported suspension? With all sense of humility, I cater for Abereoran’s needs until he crossed his boundaries. There is a curse upon him. Traditional rulers in Okun land had reasons to place curse on him in 2007 during his post election face-off with Chief Clarence Olafemi.
“At the local government level, we have twenty one members of the executive of the party and they are all behind me. We will hold a meeting next Sunday at the party secretariat in Odo-Ere.

“The boy called Femi Iselaiye stays in America, he is cutting flowers for oyinbos. A Permanent Secretary does not earn what I earn here in Nigeria. I am not looking for money in politics. I am a pharmacist and veterinary surgeon. I am a regional manager in a reputable pharmaceutical company. I took the chairmanship to stabilize the party in Yagba West and I have used my resources to fund the party. Two days ago, I bought another car with a customized plate number ‘Yagba West SDP 001’. I will drive the car home for our next meeting on Sunday at Odo Ere,” he said.

Dr. Ikubolaje called on SDP members in Yagba West to remain calm and continue to promote the activities of the party.
