United Kingdom based scholar, Dr. Aminu Musa Audu has been nominated for the ‘Intellectual Pathfinder Award’ by the Federal Polytechnic Idah, Kogi state, Nigeria.

In a letter jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Conference Planning Committee of the School of General and Administrative Studies (SOGAS), Dr. Idakwoji and Dr. Orokpo Ogbole respectively, Dr. Aminu was nominated for the award in recognition of his groundbreaking research on community policing.

The Conference Committee noted that Dr. Aminu’s widely celebrated research has led to reduction in crime and has enhanced crime management in Nigeria.

The award will be presented at the International Conference on April 8, 2025.

Reacting to his nomination, Dr. Aminu expressed gratitude to members of the conference committee for the honour.

“I feel so humbled and thrilled by this nomination for the Intellectual Pathfinder Award, especially from the home front in Nigeria. Indeed, it has played down or rejected the popular notion that Prophets are not usually honoured in their own home.

“Although, in 2023, I was recognised with the University of Liverpool Alumni Award, I had the belief that the recognition was the first and the last of its kind. However, this nomination has proved me wrong,” he said.

Dr. Aminu is a researcher on police corruption and community policing in Nigeria. He serves on the Board of Trustees of British Sociological Association and received an award of honour from Merseyside Police for his commitment as a member of Merseyside Independent Advisory Group.

His PhD Thesis ‘Community Policing: Exploring the Police/Community Relationship for Crime Control in Nigeria’ demonstrated a major breakthrough in the sociological understanding of police corruption in Nigeria.

His book, based on the same theme, has had a positive impact on the ground in the Nigeria, leading to more than £26million worth of investments from the Nigerian Government. It was also recognised by the Danish Refugee Council who invested almost £5million in community safety in north east Nigeria.

Aminu has been recognised for his significant volunteering contribution, particularly in the City of Liverpool. He has twice been recognised the Mayor of Liverpool, and recently by Merseyside Police for sitting on the Independent Advisory Group.

He has also served as a Director of the British Sociological Association, a school governor and an NHS Governor at Liverpool Women’s.
