Dr. Aminu Musa Audu a Rare Academic Giant

A Kogi-born UK based security expert, Dr. Aminu Musa Audu was recently conferred with the Igala Youth Leaders Assembly’s award for his modest contributions to global peace, security and economic prosperity.

Presenting the award in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital, to Dr. Aminu Musa Audu who was represented by Mallam Yakubu Shaibu of the Kogi State Ministry of Transport, the Speaker of the Assembly; Rt. Hon. Felix Ojoachele Akor, described the award as well deserved.

In his words, “Doctor, you are one of the reasons for our outing in 2021. We needed to showcase our own through this effort and this has been the driving force behind our decision. We have achieved this, though not enough, but we shall continue to engage in robust discussion with stakeholders on this as event unfold.

“You are a phenomenal scholarly icon, a scion of intellectual and cerebral wizardry of no mean measure.
We are proud of you for being a good ambassador of the great Igala Kingdom leading and showing good example of what the true Igala man represents.”

Akor who congratulated the awardee said his contributions to global peace and security is highly appreciated and urged him to sustain the tempo.

According to him, Dr. Aminu Musa’s development of “Ochamalienwu” (squirrel) theory of community policing and its positive impact on crime reduction and the promotion of global peace, security and economic prosperity is legendary.

Receiving the award on behalf of Dr. Aminu Musa Audu, Malam Yakubu Shaibu expressed gratitude to the IYLA for recognizing his modest contributions to peace and security and assured of his commitment to sustain the successes recorded thus far.

“I sincerely thank the Youth Leaders Assembly for this award in recognition of my modest contributions ,this Award no doubt would spur me to do more”.

Dr Aminu Musa Audu is the author of Police Corruption and Community Policing in Nigeria. A Sociological Case Study, a book based on his PhD research conducted at the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology University of Liverpool United Kingdom.

Upon request from a number of sociocultural associations in the area, Dr. Audu presented a community safety template “Kogi East Neighbourhood Watch” (KENW) which has become a reference material for safety engineering among local communities in Igala land and beyond.

His research has been recognised by Nigerian government for community policing policy and practice.

Dr. Aminu Musa Audu who currently teaches Community and the Problem of Crime at the University of Liverpool is the Treasurer of British Sociological Association (BSA), Director, BSA Publication Ltd, Director Personal Success Ltd UK and Independent Advisor to Merseyside Police in England.
