Dear Friend,
As Christians, we’re called to be discerning and not swallow the hook of deception, propaganda, and illusion, especially those trending sweet nothings. They are there to sap your spiritual strength and cause distraction, not allowing you to focus on the primary purpose of your calling, and the purpose of God for your life may be delayed.
The Dangers of Politics
For example, in the realm of politics, especially when you are not a politician, I know you have the right of expression. But when as a Christian you talk, they say it’s reported authoritatively as if you were an eyewitness, you may end up propagating lies. Not that you willingly want to do so; only thing is that you didn’t apply caution as a child of God. Have you not read or heard, “Let not corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth”? (Ephesians 4:29-32). Or that you will give account of every idle word? (Matthew 12:36).
Our Ultimate Allegiance
It’s essential to remember that our ultimate allegiance belongs to God, not any political party or ideology, because they are transient. You may say, “Should Christians not go into politics or vote for any political party or candidates of their choice?” That’s not the issue. “Have you not heard or read, ‘For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also'”? (Matthew 6:21). Where is your treasure, dear friend?
Rendering to Caesar
Even if you turn it the other way around, that’s the bottom-line approach rendition; it will be rendered, “Where your heart is, your treasure will be there also.” And He said unto them, “Who is this image and whose picture is printed on this coin or money?” They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” “Then said He unto them, ‘Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.'” (Matthew 22:20-21, KJV). They are things which belong to Caesar. Give it to Him, in line with the Word of God.
Standing Firm in Faith
There are things Caesar will not give to God. Some religions will not shift grounds because of their beliefs for anyone. Why will you then be the one to shift grounds for that which is righteous, before the Lord who loves you and died for you? If you’re in politics or walking for a politician or talking politics, remember you belong to God first. Your affection, submission, and alliance are God’s first. You were bought with a price. You are not your own. Be not conformed to this world’s standards. Don’t allow it to box you in its mold. Don’t imitate their patterns. It’s soon to vanish away like vapor.
Our Citizenship
We must be careful not to get entangled in the wrong way of playing politics of this world, but instead, focus on being ambassadors for Christ in every endeavor in life. The reason is this: “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 3:20, NIV).
