The ACN national chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, during the fusion between the ANPP and ACN in the state, accused the governor of using Radio Kogi to spread false information that the rally had been cancelled.
but the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris denied running false campaign on the state-owned media against the opposition party in the state.
The governor, who arrived Lokoja, the state capital, last week Wednesday, after his foreign trip, described the comment of the chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) against him as unfair and unthinkable.
The ACN had accused Governor Idris of allowing falsehood to be aired on state radio concerning the rally held in Lokoja by the ACN and All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), but the governor said it was unfortunate that the opposition party would always look for a way to blame their failure on the state government.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Zekeri Adamu, Idris said “it is unfair to rush to conclusion on an issue of this nature by accusing Governor Idris of trying to interfere with what happened in the opposition rally.”
But the governor’s aide said on the day of the so-called rally, Governor Idris was not in the country, adding that “how could it be possible for him to sponsor or ask anybody to run any campaign that the rally has been cancelled.”
