Further to his commitment to bridge the age-long infrastructure gap in the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy (FEDCODTTEN), Enugu, the Rector, Prof. John Emaimo, on Tuesday opened a new state-of-the-art administrative complex in the College.

The state-of-the-art facility, comprising the Rectory, Registry and Public Relations Office are aimed at enhancing efficiency and productivity to meet the growing needs of the College. Aside the Registry, Rectory and Public Relations Office, other components of the complex include state-of-the-art boardroom, multi-purpose conference hall and other offices.

Speaking on the catalyst for executing the project, the rector said the move was spurred by the poor and obsolete state of the former administrative block and the compelling need to give the college a befitting structure where administrative efficiency and productivity are enhanced.

The rector disclosed that the project was not executed for the benefit of the rector or the registrar, conscious of the knowledge that both himself and the registrar would leave office at the expiry of their tenures.

He also disclosed that the project was executed entirely from the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the College, noting that if such a project could be executed through the IGR, much more progress would have been achieved if the College had been granted access to tertiary education trust fund (TETFUND).

The rector also said his developmental initiatives in the college was spurred by his determination to improve on what he met and simultaneously leave the College better than he met it, thanking the staff for the support he has received from them thus far.

Earlier on Tuesday, the rector took delivery of a newly completed structure, comprising two large lecture halls as well as lecturers’ offices equipped with modern facilities and toilets.

The delivery of this structure was part and parcel of the developmental strides of the administration of Prof, Emaimo whose advent to the College has transformed the institution from a hitherto stagnant setting to a fast growing citadel of learning.

Like the Biomedical Engineering Department earlier completed and furnished with relevant facilities and offices for chief lecturers, the completion of this new structure, put paid to the era of discomfort faced by lecturers as a result of the dearth of infrastructure.

The building was formally handed over to the rector by the contractor, Engr. Ayogu Jyde.

Speaking after the handover, the rector disclosed that following the College inability to access TETFUND, his administration had to deploy what he tagged its ingenuity to raise funds internally with a view to altering the status quo in the College.
