The International President, Barr. Deborah Ijadele-Adetona has hailed the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu for recognizing women and appointing them in key sectors but called for more inclusivity in elective positions.
This is made available to journalists by the Association’s National PRO, Lib. Billie Nwogu.
In the statement, the SWS International President wished that women are given a ticket and all the support needed just like men to aspire and to be elected governors, and president in near future for a better Nigeria.

Standup for Women Society commended the President for adopting the significant June 12 as the official day to mark Democracy in Nigeria.
In her words “If the adage we often say that what men can do, women can do better, then it is time to put it into action. Allowing women to contest without harassment, intimidation and killing, women will contest and win in States as governors. We can do it. Pls, let women also come out to play politics with purpose. Enough of killing, harassment, and intimidation of women playing active roles in politics. We want a Nigeria where no man or woman is oppressed” Barr. Deborah said.
SWS is also calling for greater representation, equality, and justice in our democratic systems.
Despite progress, women remain underrepresented in leadership positions, face systemic barriers, and experience disproportionate impacts from policy decisions.
We hereby demand:
*Equal representation in government and decision-making bodies.
*Policies addressing gender-based violence and discrimination especially in elective roles.
*Economic empowerment and equal opportunities
“As the International President of the most vibrant women’s association (SWS) globally, we still need to do more in Nigeria to carry women along because Democracy without gender equity is incomplete. We want a seat at the table and a voice in shaping our nation and the future of our children together”
We trust President Bola Tinubu to support our advocacy for gender equity and women’s empowerment in all states of Nigeria. Together, we can build a more just and inclusive democracy.” SWS Nat. President added.
