Senator representing Kogi East, Atai Aidoko Ali has advised the political class not to do anything that will overheat the polity as democracy remains the best form of governance world over.
Aidoko, who is the chairman, Senate Committee on SDGs, gave the advise in his message to mark this year’s democracy day.
He stated that close to two decades of our return to democracy, the country had witnessed steady growth in infrastructural development, human and social development in spite of its attendant challenges.
Senator Aidoko urged politicians and their followers to do more to protect the democratic system not minding sentiments, sectional and tribal differences, all geared towards liberating the socio-economic and political development of various segments in the society.
He urged the people to support the elected representatives at all levels and drop any insinuations that constituents are not on their priority list in the area of provision of social and basic amenities, saying no matter the pressure, the electorates remains the rallying point.
Aidoko assured the people of Kogi East of efforts to ensure basic amenities adorn all the nine local government areas in the shortest possible time to complement the already provided ones, urging the people to take full charge of the facilities.
He thanked supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Kogi state and Nigeria for demonstrating glaring maturity in it’s new role of opposition party, saying this development will further strengthen the democratic norms in the various facets of our national life.
