- Urge Kogi Govt to Reverse 32-Year Neglect of Water Transportation
A civil society organization, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) has called on Kogi state government to declare a state of emergency in the transportation sector.
In a statement signed by the Executive Director, Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul, and made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Thursday, CHRCR
CHRCR descried the current situation where transportation is left solely in the hands of private sector players, leaving residents helpless.
“Kogi state shares boundaries with nine other states in Nigeria, including the federal capital territory. Investment in the transport sector can not be a waste, as it will create employment, generate revenue and provide services to the citizens.
“Workers, school children and several other citizens find it difficult to get to their places of work, even worship centers, business places and schools. The situation is worrisome.
“Research has shown that an average of ten thousand vehicles pass through Kogi state, yet, Kogi state government does not have a single vehicle on the commercial fleet. The state have no airport and no means of air transportation,” he said.
CHRCR also called on Kogi state government to reverse the 32-year neglect of water transportation in the state and call for a critical look into the transportation sector in the state.
