Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has denied allegations linking the company to child labour practices in coal mining operations within Kogi State, Nigeria.

The company spoke in response to a recent report published by an Online Platform which it described as “malicious” and “lacking in merit.”

In a statement issued by its Group Chief Branding and Corporate Communication Officer, Mr Anthony Chiejina, DIL clarified that its coal subsidiary, Dangote Coal Mines Limited, ceased operations in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State as far back as March 2022.

The company noted that this decision formed part of a strategic operational realignment, which saw its mining activities relocated to Ogbadibo and Okpokwu LGAs in Benue State.

“These operations are fully compliant with all regulatory requirements,” the statement added.

DIL expressed disappointment at the publication, urging the public to disregard the report, which it characterised as a “feeble attempt” to tarnish its reputation.

“We urge the public to disregard the said mischievous report, which at best appears to be a feeble attempt to smear our organisation’s reputation, which we hold dear in the interest of our internal and external stakeholders.

“We will continue to comply with established Group standards and guidelines applicable to our operations across all our businesses as well as follow relevant industry standards to provide excellent service delivery,” Mr Chiejina said.

In response to what it deemed an act of “unprofessional media conduct,” Dangote Industries has instructed its legal representatives to take necessary steps to prevent future instances of misinformation.

The company reiterated its commitment to ethical practices and compliance across all facets of its operations, reinforcing its position as one of Africa’s leading industrial conglomerates.

As part of its broader commitment to social impact, Dangote Industries has consistently invested in child development and human capital across Nigeria and beyond. Through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, the group supports educational initiatives, school infrastructure projects, and scholarship programmes aimed at expanding access to quality education for underprivileged children. The company also partners with government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to deliver healthcare, nutrition, and vocational training to boost long-term human capital development.
