A civil society organization (CSO), Coalition of Civil Society Against Injustice in Nigeria, has called on Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court to recuse himself from all cases that concern Kogi State.
National Coordinator of the coalition, Dr Bernard Orji, also accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of “shopping for arrest warrants for individuals without due process and in manners that suggest persecution rather than prosecution of perceived corrupt office holders.”
Orji at a press conference at the weekend accused Justice Nwite and the EFCC of not following due process in seeking for their prosecution.
“This leadership of EFCC has demonstrated an unassumingly disturbing level of abuse of both court processes, human rights and made mockery of whatever decency stands for,” he said.
The coalition, which claimed to have 85 CSOs, was reacting to an alleged planned arrest of Abdulsalamu Hudu and Umar Shuaibu, who served in the administration of former Governor Yahaya Bello.
The EFCC accused the duo of withdrawal of N46 billion from the accounts of the state government.
He also accused the anti-corruption agency of deploying blackmail and intimidation in its so-called fight against corruption.
Orji wondered why the “EFCC has not been able to concentrate on one court to prosecute its case against the duo, but resorting to jumping from one court to the other in search of what it cannot get in a fair process.”
