… PRO accused of diversion
By Nasidi Tanimu Musa.
Lokoja Local Government chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) is enmeshed in a shameful crisis over alleged diversion of 15 bags of rice said to be sallah gift to the 26 members of the local government party executives.
The rice, a sallah gift from former Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Senator Smart Adeyemi, was said to be been handed over to Mallam Muhammed Ndababo Kyapi, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the party.
According to a source, instead of distributing the food items the Hon Kyapi diverted the rice. Efforts made by the leadership of party to retrieve it proved abortive.
Efforts made by our reporter to reach the Hon. Muhammed Ndababo Kyapi failed.
Secretary of the party in the area, Hon Mayaki Abubakar, however, confirmed the story when contacted.
The Secretary explained that Senator Smart Adeyemi sent 15 bags of rice for the 26 members of the executives.
“It is true, the bags of rice was handed over to Hon Muhammed Ndababo Kyapi, who is the PRO of the party, to hand it over to Alhaji Haruna Isah, the Chairman of the party”, he said.
According to Mayaki, the Chairman of the party, Alhaji Haruna informed him about the development and directed him to contact Kyapi and collect the food items for distribution. When he contacted the PRO, he claimed he had since shared the 15 bags among members of the executives.
“To ascertain whether the rice was shared as alleged by Kyapi, I contacted all the members. All of them except Alhaji Alhaji said they were not even aware of such developments”, he further explained.
One of the leader of the party who spoke with this reporter under anonymity opined that if the allegations against the PRO is true, the betrayer of trust is enough to stir bitterness and crisis in the party.
Chairman of the party in one of the wards, who spoke with this reporter, accused the local government executives of being dishonest in all their acts. He said all they know to do is fighting each other like thieves over the sharing of the loot.
All efforts to hear from the party Chairman, Alhaji Haruna Isah by this reporter proved abortive.
