Kogi State Football Association has confirmed receipt of COVID-19 relief fund from the world football governing body, FIFA.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the state FA’s media officer, Umar Dan’Assabe Muhammed, in Lokoja on Friday.
The state football body said it received the relief fund through the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Umar explained that FIFA initiated a relief plan to assist member associations cushion impact of COVID-19 and help to restart football.
“The fund is expected to be used in line with the directive of FIFA regulations conveyed to all state FAs by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to enable beneficiaries to protect and safe guard football from the adverse economic effects of the pandemic, thereby allowing to continue developing and strengthening football in all its forms,” he said.
He stated that state FA held an an emergency board meeting on receipt of the relief fund and set up an interim committee to come up with modalities to restart footballing activities in the state in line with the COVID-19 protocols.
“The committee was mandated to consult with the various zones on the best modalities for a state-wide competition to grace the return of footballing activities.
“Also, it was agreed upon that a standard stand for washing hands be constructed and placed in Confluence Stadium Lokoja and other strategic footballing pitches in Lokoja and environs, in line with the COVID-19 protocols.
The members of the committee set up at the board meeting are; Engr. S. Bello, Mr. Peter Oguche and Dan A. Usman. The committee is to submit their report in a week time from the date of constitution.
The members of the board present at the emergency meeting include the Chairman of Kogi State FA, Alh. Umarr Suleiman Isah and his Secretary Mr. Austin Ogunmola.
Others are Alh. Ahmed Chogudo, Hon. Abdulkadir A. A, Engr. Bello S. Sule, Prince Daomi George, Chief Oguche Peter, Mr. Henry Ameh, Mr. Abiodun Olawale and Alh. Dan A. Usman.
