Dr Kabir Zubair, the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kogi chapter, has debunked a statement credited to him in a recent publication by one of the national dailies, that he said: ”the State’s Covid-19 Isolation Centres were put in place just last night”.

Zubair also corrected the misinformation in the said publication about the bed-space and available equipment at the Kogi isolation centres for treatment of the dreaded coronavirus.

Zubair, in a press statement on Thursday in Lokoja, titled: ”Correction Of Misinformation,” dissociated himself from such comments describing it as figment of imagination of the writer.

”I wished to correct the misinformation on the publication of the impromptu phone interview I granted to one Chioma Obinna of vanguard, who called to verify about ”a rumour of sudden increase in death in Kogi State”, which I debunked; emphasizing that we have not observed any sudden increase in death in the state so far.

”I wished to also state categorically that the Kogi State isolation centre for COVID-19 has been in place LONG AGO, and not ‘last night’ as stated in the publication.

”Also, that the isolation centres have up to a hundred bed-space and equipped with cardiac monitors, ventilators, humidifiers and many more, and not a ‘few equipment as stated in the misleading publication.

”Similar, it should be noted that the government has long procured it’s antigen test kits for testing suspected cases of COVID-19 in the State,” Zubair said.

The chairman further emphasized that they had not observed any sudden increase in death in the state so far.

”Finally, I wished to tender an unreserved apology to the Kogi State Government for any embarrassment that such misinformation and publication might have caused.

”I believed that we are partners in progress and no harm was intended whatsoever. The whole essence is to look for an amicable solution for the economic and health challenges caused by COVID-19 pandemic,” Zubair said.
