Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Idris Asiru has disclosed that the FAAC allocation for the month of February fell short of the state government’s expectations
Asiru, who stated this in his office in Lokoja on Tuesday, attributed the fall in the allocation to the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 disease which has become a global threat to the economy.
He, however, said the state government would ensure that it meet up its earlier promises of paying salaries of workers on or before the 27th of every month as planned in the beginning of the year.
He noted that the delay in January salary was also as a result of the drop from the FAAC allocations which has also repeated itself.
While admitting that the FAAC figures that was earlier rejected last week has now been accepted, Asiru said the reason was because there are no funds to augment the figures.
He commended Governor Yahaya Bello for been proactive by swiftly approving the review of the year 2020 budget with the view to stimulate growth by prioritizing key infrastructure projects, protecting pro-poor expenditures and ensuring adequate provision for health and education sectors.
Asiru assured the good people of the state that the present administration is doing all it can to practically generate more revenue to boost the allocation to enable it pay salaries and wages of workers, which he noted is one of the topmost priorities of the present government.
