Former governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris has advised residents of the state to comply with the World Health Organization (WHO) counsel on personal hygiene to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the former governor urged Kogi citizens and Nigerians to wash their hands regularly with soap and water, ensure social distancing and stay safe.

Idris also advised Federal, State and Local Governments to introduce weekly environmental sanitation as immediate and complimentary solution to the new disease.

He said the reintroduction of previous monthly exercise and make it weekly should be monitored by both military and para-military agencies.

He noted that if federal and state governments can restrict movement and lock down for weeks, the weekly exercise will be a major driving force to achieving health for all.

The former governor appealed to both the Moslems and Christians to adapt to the new government policy of decongestion in worship areas, stating that it is for their own good.

He maintained that personal hygiene of individuals has been the bane of our health problems, saying the acculturation of such best practices is desirable.

Former Governor Idris described the death of one of Kogi finest Engineer, former PPMC MD, Akowe Achimugu, who was diagnosed of COVID-19, as saddening. He prayed for the repose of his soul.
