Following the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal concerning the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stakeholders have renewed a strong call for unity, discipline, and reconciliation within the party in the overriding interest of its members and millions of Nigerians who look up to the PDP as a credible political platform.
Former Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, had earlier advised party leaders to accept the verdict of the court, bring an immediate end to all litigations, and move decisively towards an all-inclusive national convention in compliance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in order to safeguard the party’s participation and competitiveness in the 2027 general elections.
In the same spirit of reconciliation, the leader of our great party and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has consistently emphasized the need for sincerity, courage, and honest internal dialogue to restore stability and direction within the party. Likewise, Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has also called for unity, constructive engagement, and a collective commitment to rebuilding the strength of the PDP.

These clear calls for peace and reconciliation present a critical opportunity for respected leaders such as Governor Seyi Makinde and Governor Bala Mohammed to further demonstrate statesmanship by working with other stakeholders to consolidate the peace process for the greater good of the party.
Governor Makinde has played a notable role in supporting party structures and providing leadership, including hosting the national convention in Ibadan, while Governor Bala Mohammed, as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, has been instrumental in coordinating the collective position of PDP governors and sustaining the party’s political relevance across the states.
At this decisive moment in the history of the PDP, leaders must rise above personal interests, factional sentiments, and temporary disagreements. The survival, credibility, and future of the party must take precedence over individual ambitions. The PDP is bigger than any single individual or group.
Party stakeholders must also be mindful that Nigerians are watching closely. Many leaders who today occupy positions of influence benefited immensely from the platform and goodwill of the PDP. It would therefore be unfortunate and unacceptable for the same leaders to allow personal disagreements to weaken or destroy the very party that gave them political relevance.
This renewed call for peace must therefore be seen as a serious wake-up call to all stakeholders and leaders at every level of the party. The moment demands responsibility, restraint, and genuine reconciliation. Posterity will undoubtedly judge every leader by the role they play at this critical time in safeguarding the unity and future of the PDP and ensuring that Nigerians continue to have a strong and viable democratic alternative.

Hon. Prince Oluwakayode Emmanuel Eseyin
