Students of Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja of Igalamela/Odolu extraction who were recently affected by devastating flood disaster occasioned by heavy downpour have taken delivery of vital relief materials courtesy of the Member of the Kogi State House of Assembly representing Igalamela/Odolu Constituency, Barr. Cosmas Ilemona Atabor.
Preliminary findings reveal that five of the affected students are of Igalamela/Odolu origin. They include: Serah Jacob, Department of Biochemistry (HND1) from Odolu; Abuh Charles Ubah, Department of Public Administration (HND2) from Oji-Aji; Omaye Peter, Accounting Department (HND2) from Odolu; Daniel Alfa, Public Administration (HND2) from Ojiegbe Odolu and Ugbede Paul, Accounting (ND2).
The victims were reported to have been displaced from their rented apartments and valuable belongings were also damaged by the ravaging flood.
The Igalamela/Odolu lawmaker, who was represented by the Director General of his electioneering campaign organisation and former Ajaka Ward II Councilor, Hon. Zekeri Adama as well as his Personal Assistant, Comrade Alih Nasir presented the relief materials on behalf of Bar. Atabor who was away on an officials assignment in Abuja but delegated his aides because of the nature of the emergency.
The materials, according to Hon. Zekeri, were meant “to cushion the effects of the flood while appropriate actions are being taken to involve the government, other privileged individuals and NGOs to further relieve the victim in this difficult period”.
In his remark, one of the flood victims, Abuh Charles thanked Hon. Atabor for his empathy and generosity he prayed for God’s blessings upon him and called on other well meaning members of the public “to emulate the legislator in order to lessen the burden brought about by the unfortunate disaster”.
The relief materials donates included cash and varieties of food items.
