Kogi State Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullah, has blamed what he called the ‘Nigerian factor’ for the slow space of fight against corruption. He said that the war against corruption will remain a farce unless everyone in the country join hands to fight the cankerworm.
Abdullahi, who said this on friday while speaking in a chat with journalists at his office in Lokoja, maintained that the country is what is today because corruption has been institutionalised in every aspects of the country.
The commissioner also used the opportunity to clarify the recent clamp down on illegal parking at Lokoja metropolis as a means of sanitizing the state, saying that the step was to make residents of the state to imbibe the right habit to drive their cars.
The commissioner emphasized that the measure was also part of Governor Idris Wada’s determination to make Kogi a state of excellence in the country. Alhaji Abdullahi also stated that contrary to insinuations making the rounds that the Vehicle Inspection Officers ( VIOs) in the state are charging more the fixed N5, 0000 as penalty fees for traffic offenders in the state, he assured residents that anyone that acted outside the law would be shown the way out.
Abdullahi, who pointed out that it is not the duty of the state government to provide parking spaces for motorists, also said that any driver who had gone through the rudiments of driving would definitely know where to park his car.
Though the commissioner admitted that most roads in the metropolis are narrow, but assured residents that the state government was doing everything in its powers to expand the road networks in the city.
