  • Murtala Campaign accuses Gov. Bello of masterminding the attack

Governor Yahaya Bello has confirmed the attack on his convoy on Lokoja-Abuja highway.

Speaking at the unveiling of the deputy governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lokoja on Saturday, Bello said while he coming from Abuja “back to my territory, the lion’s den, an antelope crossed the road.

“Let it be the first and last an antelope will cross the lion’s way. Next time, there will be no warning.

“I am looking forward to law enforcement agencies to do their job and deal decisively with the situation whereby some miscreants will go and attack GYB’s convoy.”

He urged the party stakeholders to refrain from reprisal attacks in words and actions.

However, the Muritala Yakubu Campaign Organisation has countered Gov. Bello’s accusation, insisting that their principal was the victim in the attack.

In a press statement, the Director of Communications for the campaign organisation, Faruk Adejoh-Audu, said the governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, luckily escaped assassination when his motorcade was attacked by gunmen personally led by the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

Faruk alleged that Ajaka and his convoy were attacked while they were approaching Lokoja at the vicinity of the ram market when two powerbikes and Toyota Hilux overtook his car and forced it to a stop.

“This assault was heralded by a Mercedes Benz Limousine with Bello’s official crest accompanied by an open pick-up loaded with masked and hooded men bearing AK 47 assault rifles.

“The men jumped down and began shooting at Ajaka’s car and all other cars in the motorcade. They shot for over five minutes at Ajaka’s bullet proof car unprovoked.

“All this while Bello’s car was parked a few meters in front and was used to barricade the road while the gun men had a field day.

“When they ceased, Ajaka’s car, a Lexus SUV though a bullet proof was totally damaged and demobilised,” he said.
