The dissolution of the Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) by the new Kogi governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello is generating controversy as the move has been described as an ‘anomaly’.
Bello had issued a directive dissolving all boards and parastatals in the state with the exception of three statutory boards namely Judicial Service Commission, State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission as well as Accountant General of Kogi State.
But Chairman of Kogi SUBEB, Mallam Nuhu Ahmed, yesterday raised concern that the dissolution of SUBEB’s Board alongside others was an ‘anomaly’, explaining that the appointment of the executive chairman of SUBEB was statutory and is for a four-year- term.
Ahmed said he was inaugurated about a year ago by the outgone governor, Idris Wada to head the Board after due screening and confirmation by the Kogi State House of Assembly.
He appealed to governor Bello to ensure due process was followed in the dissolution of the board of SUBEB.
When contacted, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Kingsley Fanwo said: “The boards dissolved by the governor are boards that are not statutory. The governor had stated clearly why he took the action which was to inject dynamism into government business. Alh. Yahaya Bello is a firm believer in due process and will not offend the law in his actions.”
