No fewer than 213 facilitators have received training for the implementation of the Federal Government Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme in Kogi State, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Mrs Falilat Abdulrasak, the Unit Head of CCT in Kogi, told NAN at the venue of the exercise on Monday in Lokoja that 131 facilitators previously trained from 12 local government areas had started work in their various communities.
He added that about 9000 beneficiaries have been receiving the monthly cash transfer of N5000 in the 12 LGAs in the state.
“Today, additional 82 facilitators from the remaining 9 local government areas in Kogi will also be trained to carry out the same functions at the grassroots, so that the whole state will be covered.
“These facilitators will be working and relating with the beneficiaries that have been selected for the implementation of the cash transfer programme in communities and in LGAs.
“We have 82 facilitators selected on the basis on the number of wards across the nine LGAs; though all the wards were not covered, because the selection was based on Community Based Targeting (CBT) by the office of YESSO.
“I am glad to let you know that 12 LGAs in Kogi have already started enjoying the cash transfer programme. About 9000 beneficiaries have started receiving the N5000 per month.
“We are lucky in Kogi State that the Federal government is covering the whole local governments of our state,’’ she said.
Mr Adoga Ibrahim, The Special Adviser to the Governor on Multilateral Donor Agencies and Special Projects/Focal Person on Social Investment Programme, told NAN the CCT was aimed poverty alleviation.
Ibrahim said that the training was conducted by National Cash Transfer Office, Abuja, in collaboration with Kogi State Government, saying the programme have recorded appreciable success in the state.
According to him, the training is a two-day step-down programme for cash transfer facilitators from nine additional local government areas of Kogi.
He added that the targeted beneficiaries were the poor and vulnerable households in the communities to help them build resilience to withstand shocks risk and improve human capital development.
He applauded the governor for putting up good structure and for backing up all the programmes with the state’s counterpart funding to support their operations with a furnished and digitalised office.
One of the participants, Mohammed Hassan, commended the federal and the state governments for the initiative, saying “I wished the program would go beyond this government”.
Hassan, a Desk Officer of Ankpa Local Government, urged the coordinator of the program to correct the problem of wrong placement of communities in a ward that they did not belong to.
NAN reports that the additional nine local governments include: Mopamuro, Ankpa, Bassa, Omala, Idah, Kogi, Igalamela-Odolu, Ogorimagogo, Yagba East Local Government Areas.
