A Past President Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr Omede Idris, CIK, FNMA, has called for concerted efforts to ensure peace reigns in Nigeria during and beyond the Christmas festivity.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Dr. Omede felicitated with Christians and Nigerians on this year’s Christmas celebration.
Dr. Omede, also a Past President Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) and former Commissioner of Health, Kogi state, said the Christmas season calls for a sound reflection on ourselves and governance at all levels. He stated that good governance should benefit the majority of the people, whereby most people will heave sigh of relief over difficulties and challenges, currently confronting many people.
His message read: “Let the teaching and attitude at this period of celebration and beyond reflect, demonstrate and practicalize good attitude to mark the celebration. Let us share abundant memories, joy and sober reflection on the virtues of Christmas and the coming new year in a few days time. May we be part of it too.
“Faith, religion and hard work are opium for peace and security. They are fundamental for human capital, human resource development and management as well for the growth and development of the society and nation.
“As a growing society we must endeavor to play our roles through active participation, appraisal and constructive criticism and or appraisal of ourselves, others, the government functionaries and the government. Opposition must be clearly objective in criticism to make government work better for the people, with minimal hardship and pains.
“The celebration should reflect on the reality life and the significance of the existence of the Prophets as enshrined in the holy books. At this yuletide, we should be cautious, careful and conscious of movement, drive safely, eat, drink and party rationally and stay safe.”
