The Executive Director, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflicts Resolution (CHRCR), Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul, has berated Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state for organizing a lavish birthday party at public expense.
In a statement issued in Lokoja on Saturday, Miliki pointed out that the live television coverage of Bello’s birthday celebration is worrisome as it had no direct direct benefit to Kogi state.
He asked to know how many projects the governor has initiated and commissioned on a live television.
“As at today, Kogi State have no television station of its own, yet the Kogi state government have received not less than four hundred billion Naira. The colossal amount is being spent on national and privately owned television stations without direct benefits to Kogi State and its people.
“Birthday celebration by individual, country or even an institution is a reflection of life, evaluation of achievements, stock taking and thanksgiving. The live television broadcast that was witnessed during the 46 birthday ceremony of the Governor of Kogi State is worrisome,” he said.
Miliki said it would have been worth the while if the Governor had tied the ceremony to commissioning of projects, visitation to orphanage homes and projects sites.
