Children’s Day: ‘Our Children Deserve Access to Quality Education, Healthcare’ – Kogi First Lady

The Wife of Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has called for a collective action to protect the rights of every child to have access to quality education and healthcare.

Hajia Ododo made the call on Monday during the 2024 Children’s Day celebration at Government House Lokoja, with the theme: “For Every Child, Every Right”.

The Kogi first lady stressed the importance of ensuring that every child thrives in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.

“Today, as we celebrate the the children’s day, we are all reminded of our responsibilities of caring and protecting their dreams and aspirations.

“In Kogi State, under the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we are committed to providing a conducive environment for our children to learn and grow into responsible and good citizens.

‘We believe that every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare and a safe environment to develop their full potentials.

“As we celebrate the children’s day, let us reaffirm our commitment to always safeguarding the right of every child and empowering them with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed,” she said.

Hajia Ododo emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing the issue of out-of-school children by collaborating with critical stakeholders to fully implement our free education policy.

The governor’s wife expressed Kogi Government’s dedication to tackling challenges affecting children in the State.

She said the Child Right Act has raised awareness of children’s rights, leading to initiatives aimed at promoting access to quality education, addressing child labor, and challenging traditional gender stereotypes.

Hajia Ododo reassured the people that the current administration of His Excellency, Gov. Ahmed Usman Ododo remained dedicated and committed to sustaining free education in public schools.

She stressed the governor’s commitment to building a good future for the children in the state, saying that the he would not disappoint the people

She, therefore called on all stakeholders to support initiatives that promote child protection, end hunger, and curb child labor and trafficking in the country.

Hajia Ododo advised the children to dream big, be hardworking and never lose focus on their potentials, saying they are the architect of tomorrow and their contributions would shape the destiny of Kogi state.

On her part, the Deputy Speaker, Kogi House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Comfort Egwaba, commended Mrs Ododo for his passion for children in the state.

She extolled Gov. Ahmed Ododo for his commitment to continue to mobilise resources for the transformation of education sector in the state.

Egwaba, who doubles as the Chairman House Committee on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, promised effective legislation that would ensure adequate protection for children in the state.

The highlights of the Children Day celebration include: Cultural display, dancing competition, spelling bee, Students match past, callisthenics display, carnival shows, Music and dance, among others.
