The people of Chikara in Kogi LGA of Kogi State have appealed to Governor Idris Wada to provide potable water and a primary health center in the community.
The traditional ruler of the community Chief Yakubu Zaki who made the appeal on behalf of the people at the weekend while speaking with newsmen in Chikara, said lack of potable water, especially during the dry season, has posed a serious threat to the well being of the people.
He said women and youths often trek long distances in search of water, adding that the scarcity if not addressed, may soon affect the health of the people. A community leader, Dr Enock B. Jarumi, also said about 12 boreholes were sunk in the community but none could provide water due to the low level of water in the area, saying the only solution to the problem is the construction of a dam in the area.
