Kogi State owned foremost media house, The Graphic, has announced that all is set to roll out the drums on the 5th of April, 2022 at the Glass House, Government House, Lokoja by 6:30 PM, to celebrate her 30th anniversary.
The event, which will be held under the distinguished Chairmanship of Otunba Muyiwa Ibeun, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Abuja based MUJIB Group of Companies will be graced by the presences of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, and his Deputy, Chief Edward Onoja.
Addressing the staff members and some journalists in his office on the need to celebrate the existence of the state media house established sometimes in 1992, thirty 30 years, the Managing Director/ CEO of the newspaper, Otunba Adekolade Dele Samuel, said the anniversary of The Graphic newspaper was worth celebrating given the special role it had played and still continues to enact in the development of the state.
“We disseminate news about government policies and policy implementation to the citizenry and through our robust feedback mechanism furnish the government with the news we could cull from the pulse of the people for responsible action for good governance,” he said.
Also speaking, the Executive editor of The Graphic, Mr James Oyewole emphasized that the fact that since The Graphic had told and still telling the stories of governments and other people, its thirtieth anniversary was a good opportunity to tell her own story for the people and government to hear and in their well suited response join us blow our big trumpet. “After all, one good turn, they say, deserves another.”
Oyewole disclosed that among other dignitaries that will attend The Graphic event were the three senators representing each of the Senatorial Districts of the state, former Governors Ibrahim Idris and Idris Ichala Wada, the President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Chris Isuguzo.
The NUJ boss will be the Keynote Speaker.
He added: “let me also inform you, dear colleagues, that the occasion will also give us the opportunity to contribute to the body of Journalism knowledge. To do this, The Graphic will have Mr Donatus Okpe, her former Managing Director discuss “The Imperative of Media in a Democracy” as the theme of the celebration.
“And in addition to the lecture, a compendium of a few of the Editorial essays of the newspaper will be unveiled at the occasion. Awards will also be given to eminent Nigerians on that day.
“We call on the general public, especially the Media to collaborate with us to make the event a resounding success. All of us own this anniversary,” he concluded.
